Heather started off at the library as a library assistant. After a year, she was promoted to Youth Services Librarian. For 7 years, she worked hard to create innovative, fun, and engaging programs. Ms. Heather was the heartbeat of the children’s library and it was reflected in the children of the ELANCO area.
She also contributed to the library profession by volunteering as a committee member for the Association for Library Service to Children (ASLC) Notable Children’s Recordings Selection Committee, the Cruise into Kindergarten Steering Committee, and other committees dedicated to children services and literature. In March 2013, Heather received the Penguin Young Readers Group Award. The Penguin Young Readers Group Award is given to a children’s librarian working directly with children in elementary, middle school or public libraries and is based on new programming and innovations started by the applicant.
After her tenure as Youth Services Librarian, Ms. Heather turned into library director and served the library for 5 years. Heather’s passion for the library profession and the ELANCO community never faltered, but only grew. Heather was now the heartbeat of the ELANCO Library. During her time, she also worked closely with her board and staff on strategic planning, grant writing, library outreach, and establishing community partnerships. She helped turn the library into a place for the community.
Heather will now join the Office of Commonwealth as their library development advisor for early childhood services. In this statewide role, she will be connecting with colleagues in the Early Learning in the Office of Child Development and Early Learning within the Pennsylvania Department of Education and those practitioners in libraries across the state who focus on early literacy services.
The ELANCO Library would like to wish Heather success in her new job and thank her for her service for the last 14 years. Her last day was Friday, August 13.
The ELANCO Library Board is currently seeking a new director. Please stay tuned.
