Early Learning Storytimes

Pre-school Storytimes Tuesdays from 10:30am-11:15am. Preschoolers are invited to enjoy themed books, songs, rhymes, or movement activities while building language and literacy skills. For ages 4-6 and siblings.

Toddler Storytime Thursdays 10:30am-11:15am. Toddlers will dance, zoom, scoot and hop between stories selected to promote language development. All adults are expected to participate and encourage the children to join in the fun. For ages 0-3 and siblings.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a Library program that encourages all Eastern Lancaster County families and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten.

Studies have shown that families who start reading aloud to their children at birth help strengthen their language skills and build their vocabulary — two important tools when they begin learning to read in kindergarten. One study has shown that reading to your child every day increases vocabulary and word exposure by up to 1 million words by the age of five!!

ELANCO StoryWalk®

The Elanco StoryWalk® travels on a pleasant trail from Elanco Library through Garden Spot Village. The walk is partially shaded, handicap and stroller accessible, and has benches for breaks. The StoryWalk® concept was created by Anne Ferguson in collaboration with Rachel Senechal, in 2007, to promote literacy and physical activity. The Elanco StoryWalk® is a collaborative project provided by Elanco Library and Garden Spot Village. New stories are installed seasonally and include prompts to use with children to build comprehension and critical thinking skills.

Scholastic BookFlix is a new online literacy resource for grades pre-K-3 that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to help build a love of reading and learning.

TrueFlix

TrueFlix is an online resource that combines award-winning True Books content with reading supports and a deep and diverse collection of related videos, images, Web links, and text. TrueFlix is based on the True Books print series published by Children’s Press, an imprint of Scholastic Library Publishing. TrueFlix is published by Scholastic Inc., with editorial development, content management, and engineering provided by Scholastic Library Publishing.

Brittanica School

Britannica School includes tiered nonfiction articles for emergent learners in early elementary and elementary levels. Learn through natural audio read-alouds, multimedia, and interactive elements.

Transparent Language-KidSpeak

Transparent Language offers learning for over 120 languages and 6 with KidSpeak an interactive language learning tool for children 6+, including English-language learning content. Transparent Language teaches with games, practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing/typing with interactive lessons and courses. You can even take it on the go with the mobile app!
