1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Help your child know that they are a part of something big! Make sure they are as ready as they can be for one of the biggest moments of their little life – starting school.

Here at the ELANCO Library, one of our core values is to promote early literacy. Every early literacy program we offer incorporates Every Child Ready To Read. We talk, read, sing, and play in many of our programs! To help bring some of these skills to every home in our community, we decided to bring 1000 Books Before Kindergarten to our library.

This challenge has no end date except your child’s going to school- so don’t feel rushed! Take every chance to read with your children, tell and talk about stories, say nursery rhymes, sing songs, and attend library programs.

Sign up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten at the ELANCO Library!

After signing up, follow these steps:

  1. Read to your child.
  2. Color in a circle for each book read. If you re-read a book, that counts too!
  3. Bring your sheet to the library at each reading benchmark to get your prizes!
  4. Repeat until you reach the 1000 book goal.

After completing 500 and 1000, you and your child will receive a few bigger prizes. For example, at 1000, your child will get to write their name on a nameplate. The nameplate will be inserted into a book in honor of them completing the program!

If you lose any of the sheets, feel free to come into the library or click here.

Prizes

Your child will receive a prize sticker for every page completed (every 100 books). At 500 books your child will receive an extra prize for making it to the halfway point. Keep going! When your child has completed 1000 books, they will receive a certificate for their achievement and special prizes for completing the program.
